Frederick L. Bunol

Frederick L. Bunol began his legal career at the Derbes Law Firm in 2004. During these years of practice, he has had the opportunity to handle both extensive transactions and diverse litigation, especially commercial litigation. With the breadth of his litigation experience, he is comfortable whether litigating in Louisiana, Federal, or Bankruptcy Court.

In his bankruptcy practice, Mr. Bunol represents businesses and individuals that are Debtors in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7.  In addition, he frequently represents Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustees, creditors, landlords, tenants, and other parties-in-interest in Bankruptcy Court. Mr. Bunol has assisted many types of businesses in bankruptcy, including, oilfield service companies, marine (tugboat companies and offshore supply boat companies), hospitality (restaurants and their equipment distributors), and apartment complexes. Mr. Bunol can often find a non-bankruptcy solution and only uses bankruptcy as a last resort.  He also represents parties in adversary proceedings (lawsuits) filed in Bankruptcy Court.

Outside of Bankruptcy Court, Mr. Bunol represents clients in commercial litigation, entity startups, commercial transactions, construction law, as well as real estate disputes and transactions. Mr. Bunol is a licensed property and casualty insurance agent. This licensure as well as his experience handling clients claims arising out of the BP oil spill informs his work on business interruption claims.

Mr. Bunol was born in New Orleans and graduated from Brother Martin High School in 1996. After obtaining his Bachelor of Finance as well as his law degree from LSU, Mr. Bunol began his practice of law at the Derbes Law Firm. Mr. Bunol is an active member of the Jefferson Bar Association, serving as its President in 2022, and is an active committee member of the Judge Jerry A. Brown Louisiana Bankruptcy American Inn of Court. Mr. Bunol annually competes in the Hogs for the Cause fundraiser as a member of the Swine Spectators team and cooks in the Jambalaya Cook-off (Buddy Walk fundraiser) for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater New Orleans. He lives in New Orleans with his wife and three children.
